Nina Catovic was born in the Italian town of Torino (Turin) in 1994. Soon after that Nina moved to Australia with her family. They settled down in Perth, where Nina’s ability and passion for tennis really began to develop. Her athleticism was partly influenced by her sportive environment, but also by an instinctive association with the sport of tennis. Nina’s mother was a basketball player and her father had played premier division tennis in former Yugoslavia. Even as a young child she would take interest in watching the Grand Slam broadcasts, and choosing her favourites of the game which included Pat Rafter, Martina Hingis and Anna Kournikova.

Nina began playing tennis with her dad at the age of 5.
